New, upscale restaurant and bar in former Hercules Bar and Grill space features coastal-inspired food, craft cocktails, and a cozy atmosphere. SAUGATUCK, MICHIGAN, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 — Coast 236, a new, upscale restaurant and bar featuring coastal-inspired, approachable fare, is now open as of November 2018 in the former Hercules Bar and Grill location at 236 Culver Street in Saugatuck, Michigan. The new restaurant’s owners — Matthew and Linda McWebb, and Mary Fechtig and Elizabeth Estes — purchased the 19th century historical building from long-time Hercules Bar and Grill owners Don (Skip) Schipper and John Seros, and have since renovated the space’s interior with a refreshed look and feel. Matthew McWebb will serve as Coast 236’s general manager and Estes will take on the role of creative officer for the new endeavor. The former Hercules staff will be staying with the new ownership. “Skip and John built a successful business for many years in the Saugatuck community. Although they wanted to take the Hercules name into retirement with them, we hoped to build on their success and became really excited about the potential for the 236 Culver Street location,” said McWebb. “Our new partnership group worked hard to create a new brand and new menu, featuring fine food, craft cocktails, and an updated cozy atmosphere. We can’t wait to open Coast 236’s doors and share our vision with the community! When you think about a coast, whether it be right here in our amazing Michigan or along the shorelines of Florida, Italy, Maui or wherever your travels have taken you, there is a comfort and connection with the waves and water, as well as a freshness and familiarity. That freshness and familiarity is the inspiration for the food, the ambiance, and the experience we hope to create at Coast 236. Our offerings will be approachable, but interesting. Our menu will rotate, and the energy and vibe of the place will hopefully be something that brings people back time and again. The Coast 236 team worked with Executive Chef Consultant Mindy Trafman on the menu and wine pairings, and with local Saugatuck Mixologist Patrick Tracy and Advanced Sommelier Mike Gustaitis to update the wine, bar and craft cocktail list. Four new taps have been added to the menu for a total of six beers on tap — five craft and one domestic. Coast 236 is open for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for five days a week during the winter season (Wednesday through Sunday) and seven days a week during the summer season, and accepts reservations via their website (www.coast236.com). Walk-ins are also welcome.
